Calculation predicts what a room should do; measurement establishes what it does. Where the two disagree the prediction is investigated. It is not adjusted until it agrees.

3.2Two distinct subjectsموضوعان متمايزان
The room and the sound system are separate subjects. Measuring them together yields a result that describes neither, so they are measured separately and reported separately.
القاعة ومنظومة الصوت موضوعان منفصلان. وقياسهما معاً يعطي نتيجة لا تصف أياً منهما، لذلك يُقاسان منفصلين ويُذكران منفصلين.

3.3Procedure separating the two faultsالإجراء الفاصل بين العطلين
A room fault and a system fault produce similar complaints. This procedure determines which is present, before expenditure is committed to either.
عطل القاعة وعطل المنظومة يُنتجان شكاوى متشابهة. ويحدد هذا الإجراء أيهما الموجود، قبل التزام أي إنفاق لأيٍّ منهما.

Each measurement position is assigned a coordinate on the plan and an identifier, so it can be reoccupied exactly — before and after any treatment, this year and in subsequent years. Positions include the prayer areas front to back, the shadowed zones behind columns, the boundary where the coverage of two loudspeakers overlaps, and one position close to each significant ventilation outlet. A measurement that cannot be repeated is an anecdote.
يُخصَّص لكل موضع قياس إحداثي على المسقط ومعرّف، ليتسنى شغله مجدداً بدقة — قبل أي معالجة وبعدها، في هذا العام وفي الأعوام التالية. وتشمل المواضع مناطق الصلاة من الأمام إلى الخلف، والمناطق المحجوبة خلف الأعمدة، والحد الذي تتداخل عنده تغطية سماعتين، وموضعاً واحداً قريباً من كل مخرج تهوية مؤثر. والقياس الذي لا يمكن تكراره حكاية لا دليل.
